macOS

Open the disk image

Drag qrate to Applications. The app has an ad-hoc signature but is not notarized. If macOS blocks it, try to open it once, then choose Open Anyway under System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Base builds offer PDF support on first use; full builds include it. For video frames, usebrew install ffmpeg.
Windows

Open your download

Run the EXE or MSI installer. For a portable ZIP, extract it and run qrate.exe. These downloads lack a Windows publisher signature, so SmartScreen may ask you to choose More info, then Run anyway.
Base builds offer to install PDF and video support on first use; full builds include them.
Linux

Extract and run

The tarball holds the binary, an icon and a desktop entry. Nothing installs system-wide, so put the directory wherever you keep local software.
tar -xzf qrate-0.6.0-beta.2-base-x86_64-linux.tar.gz cd qrate-0.6.0-beta.2-base-x86_64-linux ./qrate
Base builds offer PDF and video support on first use; full builds include them.

This is a beta build

Keep backups of important collections, and report problems with the steps that reproduce them. Nothing you catalogue leaves your machine either way: a project is one file on your own disk.
